Overview and History

The development of the Municipal Assistant ™ was initiated to address the need for an operational information system to assist with the operations, maintenance and management of water and wastewater facilities and related infrastructure.

The Municipal Assistant™ uniquely combines into a single user friendly system with the following core functionalities:

  • Water quality monitoring and management

  • Evaluating and reporting compliance with regulatory water quality standards and criteria (SANS 241, licensing conditions and Blue Drop and Green Drop specifications)

  • Assists the user in the compilation of various reports (including a Blue Drop/Green Drop reporting facility)

  • Asset management to ensure optimal performance of facilities to produce good quality drinking water and discharge

  • Operational and maintenance scheduling of equipment and staff utilisation

  • Assist with routine and process control inspections and incident reporting

  • Compilation of operational and maintenance budgets to ensure timeous preventative maintenance and replacement of equipment


2006 : The first version of the Municipal Assistant™ was launched and installed at Mogale City in Gauteng. Modules included in version1:

  • Asset Management module was added

  • Water Demand Management module added
  • Budget Management module added
  • Tools module added, including Wastewater calculator and conversion tools


2008

  • Refinement of reporting features:

  • Blue Drop and Green Drop reporting
  • Compliance reporting


2009

January 2009: Fixed assets module added

March 2009: Sewer maintenance module added

May 2009: Vehicle and timesheet modules added

May 2009: 28 clients and more than 50 individual users are using the Municipal Assistant™ System

September 2009: An enhanced version 2 of the Municipal Assistant™ will formally be launched

September 2009: Launch of the Municipal Assistant™ website

The Municipal Assistant™ is based on the requirements identified by Local Municipalities and is continually updated according to additional requirements by the municipal users of the system.
